Chiew Lan is a Partner in the Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group of the newly formed LAW Partnership.
Chiew Lan has over 18 years of experience in practising law specialising in the field of Intellectual Property (IP). She is listed as a Leading Lawyer for Intellectual Property in Asialaw Leading Lawyers 2015 and again in 2018. She assists clients in creating, protecting, commercialising and enforcing various types of IP including trade mark, design, domain name, geographical indication and copyright.
Chiew Lan also advises on transactional IP work such as licensing, franchising, regulatory advice for food, drug and labeling laws as well as data protection and privacy issues. She has advised clients from a diverse range of sectors including automotive, pharmaceutical, consumer products, food and beverage, luxury products, fashion and retail.
Now the immediate past President of LESM, Chiew Lan formerly heads the society in Malaysia in promoting, among others, the awareness and economic importance of licensing, transfer of technology and other intellectual property rights.
Notable Work Highlights
Assisted in the setting up of the MYDRP including drawing up the MYNIC’s Domain Name Dispute Policy, Rules and Supplemental Rules.
Conducted personal data protection audit, advised on compliance requirements, provided training and seminars, assisted clients in formulating privacy policies.
Provided advice, opinion and strategy in relation to matters such as branding, copyright, trademarks, design, patents and confidential information.
Assisted clients in setting a licensing regime, formulating a licensing policy and implementation of the licensing regime.
Assisted clients to negotiate and prepare the franchising documentations and registration.
